Summer Drifts
04:00
|
|||
Camera lens set in tight denim black boyish hair smeared like ink with a palm see her change in your eye
bottle caps sunk in tar summer soft in the awfully calm afternoon time looks small in your palm
this is how summer drifts
from lust to lust it skips
like stones across a lake
they say an answer hides
but me I don't care to find
I'm fixing on the rise
of new life in my blood
and I follow
Airplane hum brief eclipse then the voices surge back like a boat to the surface a spray cold and clear
on the sunbathers slow the awareness of eyes solo cups empty skid in a meaningless wind
this is how summer drifts
from lust to lust it skips
like stones across a lake
they say an answer hides
but me I don't care to find
I'm fixing on the rise
of new life in my blood
and I follow

EZ River
07:26
|

Oh easy river I want my heart to bend
the way the light just runs you through
but I just feel the sweat begin to bead
oh easy river watching me with my own eyes
too blank to even be a simple enemy I could use
all this splendor laughs at me and my fickle moods
where there should be bliss, oh god
there is emptiness
I am bored to tears counting echoes til I leave this behind
I wait beneath the infinite my toes in the infinite but my my my my
my heart is immeasurable untouchable illegible to me
some days it's just too much work to love and so I don't
The wheel is always turned by unknown hands
these pits I can't see through time always sees me through somehow
maybe it's just boredom spitting gold
I go to work I try to be a good man
I'm lifted up by thoughts talking at the bar til I lose my voice
I win a heart though I will lose the war
I know trouble's always lookin out for me
one dream of yesteryear
one slip and the car's clipped and run awry
if I see the bending steel maybe I'll know change can find me
I am bored to tears counting echoes til I leave this behind
I wait beneath the infinite my toes in the infinite but my my my my
my heart is immeasurable untouchable illegible to me
some days it's just too much work to love and so I don't

California
02:59
|
|||
knew it was dead when I heard the word
"California" slipped under
the overhang to dodge the rain
that broke the stifling heat that day
felt like laughing but I don't know why
your voice brought the whole day out
from the long slow summer drunk
I'd trade it all for the black umbrellas floating by
for weeks after I missed the call
slept with the phone under my hand
waiting for the miracle that rested safe inside my skin

No Xmas In Bushwick
04:09
|

David hits the pipe blows smoke across the loft
he blinks away a year spent in one chair
daydreams of seeing famous people he once knew
he speaks each line just so each time he lives a thousand lives before he goes to work
and I go back to clean sleep
where there are none of these things you know
my clothes were pressed my hair flew in the wind
I saw land on the horizon
and felt a thrill
like God
the creator
Peter sleeps right through his interview again
calls his mom for rent we hear it through the walls
he's in the cafes shaking hands to get ahead
hungry for love that never comes
man I just say what I have to say to get away
and I go back to clean sleep
where there are none of these things you know
my clothes were pressed my hair flew in the wind
I saw land on the horizon
and felt a thrill
like God
the creator

oh how I loved you then
from across the quiet room
we were close at the edge of the night
dressed in our sleeping clothes
twisted in awe as the voices rose
I still see your face
or maybe I just wish I did
did you lose what you couldn't find
hope springs with your back against the wall
in the dog days of our minds
did you get back to your old eternity
where your laughter's still buried in the trees
and it's not forgotten
give me a radio
give me a host that I can sing
back into the world I was just a victim in
oh how I love you now
though the years divide us
I see you still
stars falling through your eyes again again again
could you lose what you couldn't find
hope springs with your back against the wall
in the dog days of our minds
did you get back to your old neighborhood
where your laughter's still swimming in the trees
we got time, oh do we got time
